Women in Church Leadership
Women and the Word
How this conference came to be

This conference is coming into being because of the commitment, passion and planning skills of a group of ten women from various educational and pastoral settings in Ohio and southern California who believe it is vitally important to bring contemporary scholarship about biblical women leaders to faithful women and men in Catholic parishes and small faith communities.

It is an outgrowth of a two-year effort by FutureChurch to encourage the October 2008 Synod on the Word to invite women scholars, devote greater pastoral attention to Jesus' and St. Paul's inclusion of women leaders, expand preaching opportunities for women and restore to the lectionary biblical women whose stories have been diminished or deleted.

As a result, the synod invited the most women ever, praised women in the ministry of the Word,  discussed women in the lectionary and asked to re examine lectionary texts.

We are grateful to underwriting benefactors in Los Angeles, as well as support from a number of communities of women religious, including but not limited to:

Benedictine Sisters of Baltimore
Sisters of the Divine Savior
Sisters of Providence of St. Mary of the Woods.
Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Los Angeles Province
Leadership of Sisters of St. Joseph, West Hartford, CT.
