New Initiative Creates Global Platform for Catholic Women to Preach

On November 1st, a brand new initiative – Catholic Women Preach (CWP) – launches in time for Advent.

Using modern technology to bring the voices of Catholic women to the proclamation of the Gospel, will offer challenging, inspiring and faith-filled preaching by highly-qualified and diverse Catholic women from across the globe.

“We are pleased to launch this project with three highly respected Catholic women --  Jamie Phelps, OP, Astrid Lobo-Gajiwala and Barbara Reid, OP,” said Elizabeth Donnelly, who serves as Preacher Coordinator for the initiative.  “Other initial preachers sure to inspire include Kerry Robinson, Carolyn Woo, Christine Schenk, CSJ, and Nontando Hadebe.” provides a resource-rich and easily accessible website with videos and texts of Catholic women reflecting on the Sunday readings as well as select feast days.

“The weekly preaching can be viewed on a smartphone, tablet or PC,” said Russ Petrus, Program Director for FutureChurch and CWP website designer.  “That will make it easy for interested Catholics, especially younger Catholics, to access the wisdom and inspiration of a voice that is emerging in a new way in our Church – that of faith-filled, committed Catholic women.”

The project is the collaborative work of FutureChurch with members of the Dominican Sisters of Peace and the Sisters of St. Joseph.  It is inspired by, not only Catholic themselves, but by Pope Francis who has called for broader and more active engagement of the baptized in the preaching mission of the Church.

“Catholic Women Preach offers preaching resources for all the faithful - ordained and lay alike – as they prepare to preach, lead prayer groups, evangelize, teach, provide pastoral care and nurture their own spiritual health, “ said Deborah Rose-Milavec, CWP Project Director.  “It is a deeply faithful, hopeful and joyful initiative intended to build up the Church that we love and encourage all the faithful as we carry out the mission of the Gospel.”

“Each time I have had the privilege of hearing a woman preach, I have felt as though God has become more fully alive in me and in my community,” said Jocelyn Collen, who has helped steer the project. “Sometimes, it is as if I can now see and sense God more clearly.”
