William A. Clark, S.J., S.T.D. will speak on “A Voice of Their Own: The Authority of the Local Parish”

Who: William A. Clark, S.J., S.T.D., is the author of A Voice of Their Own: The Authority of the Local Parish (Liturgical Press). He is Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at Holy Cross College, Worcester, MA where he teaches courses in Catholicism, Christian prayer, and the Church. In addition to his academic work on the role of local church communities, Father Bill has extensive experience in parish pastoral work, retreat direction, and music ministry.

What: In this book Fr. Clark argues that the local parish community gives the Church its real and concrete authority. He will reflect on a theology of parish that empowers the laity to renew the whole Church through the renewal of the local community. As Catholics in the Diocese of Cleveland prepare to implement the clustering configurations as part of the Vibrant Parish Life initiative, Fr. Clark will give insight into the meaninfulness and importance of the parish in the every evolving local and universal Church.

FutureChurch, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, is a coalition of 5,000 parish-based Catholics striving to educate fellow Catholics about the seriousness of the priest shortage, the centrality of the Eucharist (the Mass), and the systemic inequality of women in the Catholic Church. FutureChurch makes presentations throughout the country, distributes educational and informational packets and encourages widespread discussion of the need to open ordination to all baptized persons who are called to priestly ministry by God and the people of God.
