Mary of Magdala

Beloved Friends,

It is hard to believe that spring is just around the corner and soon it will be time to begin planning for my feast day on July 22. Last year, I was delighted to share my feast with the women who ministered with St. Paul -- Prisca, Phoebe and Lydia, to name a few. This year, I am happy to celebrate the day with even more women leaders in early Christianity (from the fourth until the 9th centuries). These women are nearly unknown, but thanks to catacomb frescos, sarcophagi friezes, original art, paintings and mosaics, we are beginning to learn and share their stories.

Thank you for helping spread the word about my true role as Apostle to the Apostles as well as about women in early Christianity and women who minister in the Church today.

I am getting used to the 21st century and finding new ways to tell the story, so become a fan of my own Facebook page at St. Mary of Magdala, friend of FutureChurch.

Look for the annual Mary of Magdala celebration organizing kit on the FutureChurch website after April 1st to help start your planning.

Thank you for telling the untold stories of women leaders who proclaimed Jesus' saving Love to a needy world.
