‘09 Magdala Events to Celebrate Women Coworkers of Paul

Go and Tell: Celebrating the Women Who Were Co-Workers with Paul is the title of our special 2009 Mary of Magdala prayer service, created by Joan Brausch of Midland, Michigan. The service weaves together the stories of women of faith—Mary of Magdala, Women in the Ministry of Paul, Women Who Preach the Gospel in Word and Action, Women Who Serve, Women Who Lead in the Community, Mothers Who Pass on their Faith and our own stories. We have chosen to educate about the women leaders of St. Paul, specifically Prisca, Phoebe, Lydia, and Eunice as a fitting conclusion to the Church’s Year of St. Paul.

Every year, FutureChurch includes prayer, education and action components to the celebrations in honor of St. Mary of Magdala’s feast day on July 22nd. Celebration coordinators are asked to distribute postcards for participants to send to Cardinal Llovera, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments, asking him and the synod council to follow through on Synod Proposition 16, a reexamination of the Lectionary “in light of these historic times” and include more stories of biblical women leaders.
