In Memoriam
Sister of Loretto Mary Luke Tobin went home to God on August 24 at the age of 98. Tobin was one of only 15 female auditors invited to the Second Vatican Council. She served on a committee that helped write Gaudium et Spes, the “Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World.” Sr. Mary Luke was a pioneer in the renewal of religious life and led the way in many justice, peace, human and civil rights initiatives. FutureChurch derived our motto from her closing remarks in a speech she gave in Cleveland in the early 90’s: “Because we love the Church, it’s up to us to make it better.”
