Saint Augustine’s Church in Gainesville, Florida celebrated the Feast of
Mary Magdalene for the sixth year in a row. The evening began with a
blessing led by Sister Dolorosa Kissaka of Tanzania followed by a salad
supper attended by approximately 75 people. (After dinner, Janet Allen
gave a brief slide presentation on Mary Magdalene in Provence, France.
The group then proceeded into the church for a candle lit vesper service.
Nancy Demers presided. Michelle Donnelly, Joy Goodall and Elaine
Francis presented a triptych based on the stages of Mary Magdalene’s
life which was written by Joy. Sister Rose Hoover gave an inspiring
reflection on the many Mary Magdalene legends and the implications
of her life in the 21st century.
