Seattle Archdiocese Comments
(YES) I think the change is called for/we have discussed long enough! Maybe like the Episc., some of the bishops should just step out and ordain both women & men, get fired and be heroes. We need women priests even more than men. God bless you. Give my kudos to your whole committee.
(YES) Absolutely!
(NO Answer) I am not going to cooperate with this project. If priests wish to express a view on celibacy, let them do it publicly and not anonymously. Let them sign their own names. There is already a climate of distrust between priests and bishops, and I think this type of action simply exacerbates that. Celibacy is not an overriding issue I the challenges of the Church today. I suggest you read the excellent work by David Carlin, “The Decline and Fall of the Catholic Church in America” (2003.)”
(YES) Thank you. I have no regrets; I’ve received much joy and fulfillment being a celibate priest. But I don’t presume this should be a requirement for being a priest. Could I do today in 2004 what I did in 1957? I doubt it, and that’s sad. May God bless your endeavors.
(YES) “But only when the Pope calls for such a discussion.”
(NO) I am afraid that your agenda calls for spinning this poll to fit your philosophy—I hope not—that would be immoral.
(YES) Thank you for doing this!
(YES) It is sad! “Call to Action” cannot ask the correct questions! We cannot have and honest clergy till we have and honest hierarchy! The hierarchy is corrupt and corrupting. They offer no honest leadership or pastoral care for priests. They should resign—honest priests should be elected to serve and solve the sexual problems!
(Not Sure) if the discussion just gave the priests’ feelings and beliefs, and acknowledged that all the opinions might just be ignored, it would be a good thing. If it seemed to be a threat that if there is no change we all quit, or will get married and continue to function as priests, then I would be against the meeting and being ignored.
(NO) No doubt you could find “some priests” for full acceptance of homosexuality, birth control issues, and the “legality” of abortion as being appropriate for Americans and /or not forbidding Holy Eucharist to Catholic politicians who publicly support the same.
(YES) I am deeply resentful of gag orders.
