Comments - Diocese of San Bernardino

Yes- If celibacy were optional then candidates for priesthood would have a clearer choice in terms of opting for diocesan or religious community priesthood. Having a choice would enhance and better delineate both forms of priesthood.

Yes- What's more important celibacy of celebrating the sacraments???

No- Acceptable is the celibacy rule of the Roman Rite.

No- Absolutely not!

Yes- Optional celibacy I favor.

Yes- It is time.

Yes- All priests - all ages - all conditions - should have the right and privilege to marry at a time of their choosing. Celibacy needs to be optional.

Yes- Good luck.

Yes- Good work! God bless!

Yes- Will not be discussed until John Paul II moves on.

Yes- We will find among married men all the signs of a vocation to the priesthood. If so, God calls them!

Yes- Thanks for making a sincere effort to help the Church-since the bishops are afraid and in effect ????? some one like you spirit filled.

Yes- Celibacy change would have no effect on the underlying scandal of sex abuse we've endured - it's a different problem. The issues here is the need for more pastoral care by priests. Rome will not change by democratic pressure - but perhaps the married deaconate could be a new model for moving toward another form of priesthood.

No- Poor timing for this discussion. I don't think celibacy was the cause of the present situation. It was the poor handling by the Bishops.

Yes- I have to cancel Sunday Masses during my vacation because no surplus priests are available and the bishop won't allow lay led Communion services on Sunday! TRAGIC/RIDICULOUS!

Yes- We are becoming a Church of the Word as Eucharist will not be available as it is now. Young people have no interest in living in celibate loneliness and they are wise. We need to hear them as God's voice and design structures to preach the Gospel today. We insist God send us candidates for the system that we have created rather than create a system for the candidates God wants to send us.

Yes- In favor of discussion provided it produces more light and less heat.

Yes- 2nd vocation diocesan priest - have 26 yr. old daughter.

Yes- The sooner the better - In our diocese we have "priest ministers" serving under a deacon, man or lay person. We call these men "stud priests" like a bull they service the parish - None of these priests are happy with the system.

Yes- I don't think that openly discussing the question should be forbidden. Airing a problem is good.

No- Celibacy is a very nice gift we received from God. I chose to live it with happiness.

Yes- The Holly (sic) Father said: there is not place for homosexuals in the priesthood. It's a great opportunity to help our Bishops in taking the great decision (??) to not accept any homosexual as a candidate to the sacred and holy orders. We want that all homosexual seminarians leave the intention to be ordain as Priests.!!!

Yes- Thanks for doing that survey.

Yes- I would not personally embrace, if a change in the current discipline were promulgated.

Yes- We should look at the experience of non-celibate clergy from other rites within the Catholic Church.

Yes- KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK - YOU'RE RIGHT. OBLIGATORY CELIBACY HAS GOT TO GO. GOD BLESS YOU!

No- Please review the history of the church why celibacy was imposed on the clergy. Cost of salary of married clergy can be very expensive for parish. ____td problems and family problems can be a scandal to parishioners.

Yes- Firstly, Let's invite our Brother priests, who have left and are married back to ministry.
