FORT WAYNE-SOUTH BEND DIOCESE COMMENTS
What God permits – man should not forbid.
Our Lord stated simply: “He who can take it, take it, who can’t leave it alone.”
The choice should be freely chosen by the individual – not mandated by law.
I knew all this when I was ordained over 50 years ago. I chose it freely.
How about a discussion about the permissiveness of our culture also its destructiveness, e.g. contraception, homosexuality and divorce, divorce among priests who leave for the married life.
PLEASE…I have married priests in my parish who would be more than willing to help if they could. I am overwhelmed!
I believe that once one makes a vow of celibacy he should do all he can to keep it. I have striven to keep my vow of celibacy for forty-eight years and it has been a blessing to me, not being chained down to one person – having more time for prayer, exercise, charity, travel, and to love thousands instead of just one. Maybe, with our Holy Father’s consent, our seminarians could have the option that Eastern rite seminarians have in regard to celibacy. I have no objections to married deacons or married men over the age of thirty-five being admitted to the protestant ministers, who are married, sometime receive papal permission to be Catholic Priests. I think all of these points could be and should be discussed by our bishops in closed session.
