Leadership, Delegates to Eucharist Synod Named
On March 30, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) released a statement saying that Pope John Paul II had confirmed the November election of delegates to the forthcoming International Synod on the Eucharist (October 2-23).
Please email or write them.
A. Emphasize your love for the Eucharist and your concern that the deepening
priest shortage is making it increasingly unavailable. Ask that they make
sure the worldwide priest shortage is on the agenda of the October Synod.
Request:
a. open discussion about ending mandatory celibacy,
b. welcoming back married priests and
c. ordaining to the diaconate the tens of thousands of women serving the Church right now.
d. That we model our Eucharistic practice according to Jesus’ inclusive table- sharing as described in the Gospelse
e. That we emphasize all the ways Christ’s Real Presence is with us in addition to the sacred elements.
B. Make sure you say you are praying the guidance of the Holy Spirit on Synod proceedings.

Synod Discussion Leaders Named.
Also in March, the Vatican named four cardinals and an archbishop to lead
the discussions at the Synod. Cardinal Angelo Scola of Venice will be recording
secretary with the job of introducing and summarizing the discussion. Presiding
responsibilities have been given to three Cardinals: Francis Arinze of
Nigeria, prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments;
Juan Sandoval Iniguez of Guadalajara, Mexico; and Telesphore Placidus Toppo
of Ranchi, India. The synod's special secretary will be French Archbishop
Roland Minnerath of Dijon.
